On June 21 I was at Biker’s Alley in Clive, Iowa when a group of riders with the Midwest Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club (IWMC) stopped by to check out the store. Approximately 116 riders were in Des Moines for their regional meeting. The Midwest Region consists of members from Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, and North Dakota. Thanks to Jeff Rost and Ty Perry at Biker’s Alley the Iron Warriors were treated to free hot dogs and sodas during this break in their ride.

IWMC is a nationwide organization of approximately 600+ members consisting of active and retired public safety men and women including but not limited to Police, Firefighters, Prison Guards, Probation Officers, Federal Agents, Department of Transportation, and Military Police. While they may look a bit intimidating to passers by, have no fear. They have no affiliation with 1% clubs; in fact they are the complete opposite and even have a slogan within the club, “We Fight What You Fear”.

They sponsor and participate in fundraising activities to support Officer Welfare, Special Olympics, Alzheimers, Kid’s with a Wish, the United Leukodystrophy Organization and many others. They do this by hosting rides, poker runs, live and silent auctions to name a few ways.

The wives and significant others of IWMC members, known as the Order of the Garter, also play a large role in the activities hosted/attended by the IWMC.

Some members take it upon themselves to reach out to others not even from their regions. I visited with members who assisted down south in the aftermath of Katrina and others who worked days without end at Ground Zero immediately following 9/11.
