You know how one moment of pure motorcycling can make it all worth it? How one moment of bliss on a bike can make up for a day of rain, or clutching, or parts falling off? That one instant where a magic breeze blows over you, the vistas unfolding in front of your handlebars are like a moving postcard, the bike just feels right and the engine’s purring and you whisper something under your breath like Lord, take me now…Well, those moments are sometimes hard to come by, but if you made it out to Arizona Bike Week last month, chances are you had a few! Take away the rain part, add the wind blowing through your helmetless hair, oh and add in perfect, and I mean perfect weather, and you had ABW 2008. In Phoenix? Yes in Phoenix! If this is global warming, I’ll take more please! The days were made for riding, in either the escorted rides or the poker runs, which took in some of the best scenery AZ has to offer (both of the female and geographical design) and the nights were perfect for shopping vendors or attending the great concerts each night at the Handlebar Saloon. We saw Kansas perform to a capacity crowd, and they did not disappoint. If you were there two nights prior, you saw Brett Michaels and just before him, me and the Southwest team from QT throwing out free shirts and doorags. We even had part of our CA contingent there, and we all had a blast riding and hanging out.

Which reminds me that I really want to thank Chi Chi and Jaime for the hospitality of their toyhauler while I was in town. I had the garage to myself (accept for the beer coolers, which I made room for) and I’ll tell ya that little room makes for good sleeping. When I wasn’t sleeping one off, I was hanging with some truly great people. They made me feel right at home. If you want to support some folks from the Biker Community, who really epitomize that community, go to www.PowerOfTheV.com . They’re an advertiser too and for that I thank them as well.

I also want to thank Hacienda H-D and Big Dog Motorcycles for loaning me a new Pitbull while I was out there. Now that was a fun ride. I put on about 400 miles running around AZ so I’ll have a good road test for you next month. Lastly let me thank Linda Dahl, our Phoenix rep who’s boots actually burst into flames, she was so busy running around ABW, setting up everything from celeb interviews to magazine racks to my loaner bike to a QT Hospitality party in the campground. Oh, and she even had time to let Brett Michaels sign her boob. More on that next month, but thanks again Linda and great job. We’ll have most of the ABW coverage next month, but in this issue you’ll find some of the first pics and recaps to come out of what was a strong event.

So strong in fact that some were saying this was the best ABW ever! I’ll tell ya gang, I don’t want to get too excited here, but at this major event (and along with Laughlin, kind of the “season openers” that set the tone) they are reporting that attendance was UP, dollars spent with vendors were UP, vendor turn-out was UP, and even the dealerships where many of the organized rides started at, said ridership was UP from last year. That my friends is a very good sign for our little Moto-Economy (if I coined that phrase, send checks to our PO Box). As of this writing we’re gearing up for the Laughlin River Run; let’s hope that one is just as fun!

Here in California, we’re getting ready for a fun time in Santa Maria, at the Quick Throttle Motorcycle Madness event, May 16-18. Santa Maria may be known for it’s BBQ, but it’s also becoming known as host to a great Central Cal. ride, probably the only event other than Hollister to draw so many So Cal and Nor Cal riders to one place. For lots more info on this great event (and we’re not just saying that because we’re the main sponsors) see the center of the mag for our special Motorcycle Madness Event Guide. No, it’s not a pull-out, so don’t mess up my pages, we work hard on this stuff!

And speaking of hard, Lori our O.C. rep needs a man. Now I don’t want to embarrass her (too late) but after her recent ride all the way out to AZ Bike Week on her Sportster 1200, I took to calling it the “Milwaukee Vibrator,” because well, she just wouldn’t get off the damn thing. Seems it’s the only thing giving her any pleasure lately. Now if you think you’re man enough, drop her a line at lori@quickthrottle.com . Send her your pic and a little about yourself. She likes country and blues music, loves her horse, and loves QT Mag even more! (ok that’s me talking)

Now Lori’s a good biker chick, which means she’s ok with you being a little nasty, just as long as you’re still respectful and you treat her at least as well as you treat your bike. If you can handle that, drop her a line a say hello! And do it quick, while she’s still working for the mag!

So now I’m playing matchmaker with the Letter from the Editor. Oh how the mighty have fallen…

See ya out there,
CD
